With last year's Eater of Birds, Cobalt solidified their standing as one of the strongest forces in the North American black metal scene, unleashing a unique and epic work of avant-war-metal art that turned heads and unhinged jaws. What's more, it was the first extreme metal album to feature an appearance by ex-Swans singer Jarboe. Their blood flowing strong, the Colorado duo builds anticipation for their next full-length with this limited-edition stopgap release, a glorified EP entitled Landfill Breastmilk Beast. Clocking in at over 50 minutes, the four-song CD previews new and exclusive Cobalt material--most notably the "Ritual Use of Fire" track in its entirety. Initially broken up into three acoustic interludes on Eater of Birds, the complete version of "Ritual Use of Fire" is an epic 35+ minute atmospheric/ambient journey through a landscape of desolation, loneliness, and desperation. Landfill Breastmilk Beast also includes a new Cobalt track, "Stomach," which will appear on the upcoming full-length due out in 2009, a cover of "Extinction" by crust punk anarchists Nausea, and a hidden experimental track. |
