***When the Syrup Girls met Drop The Lime they thought he was a giant tequila shot. Eventually they realized that he was just drunk on margaritas to go and totally rolling and it was only 9 p.m. Jesus wept. The ruckus began. The three discovered that they all loved grimy parties, fake blood fights, bootleg Vuitton, hot sauce on gold fronts, eyepatches, mastodons, yelling in the streets and getting tommy guns pulled on them in the Lower East Side. Naturally, they had to make a CD together. The result is the sheer fucking rowdiness known as Shotgun Wedding Vol. 4, the fourth in a series that has already featured mixes by Cex, Kid 606 and Knifehandchop, among others. DTL's mix is a ride into the sounds that have inspired and influenced him as a producer. Using three turntables, he mixes old skool jungle classics screwed down to 33 over crunk and growling dubstep, 4x4 ghettotech over hip-hop all-star jams pitched up to 45, and Billie Holiday acapellas over swooning, melodic soundscapes. Basically, it's totally insane. Flip to track 2, and the Syrup Girls drop bullets on the decks and flames to the floor, making ill bootlegs, nasty 4x4 garage, Bmore club jams, favela funk and grime sound like they've always belonged together. If you don't dance to this, your booty is broken and you need to go home. 30-second MP3 excerpts: "3 Decks No Shame" - Drop the Lime "For All the Dirty Cougars" - Syrup Girls |
