***HEXSTATIC are back! With When Robots Go Bad! the audiovisual masters have produced their most satisfying audio set yet and this double A-side single is the first taste of it. A building, growing epic, "Roll Over" features the remarkable vocals of SABIRAJADE, a newcomer who is set to cause much havoc with a voice that evokes real heart and soul. "Red Laser Beam," meanwhile, is more tooled up for the dancefloor, ramming punk rock guitar up against next level electronics and B-movie sci-fi. Hexstatic have also included another track for this muscle-bound EP, an extended work-out of the album cut "Tokyo Traffic" that sounds like the best video game you've never played (a Japanese Frogger perhaps?). Simple as that. Control-Alt-BOOM.

Those kids, those kids, those crazy kids. Yes, for tis time and no doubt will remain time for the second volume of Ninja Tuneis rather tasty eSolid Steeli mix series. And where installment one came from DJ Food and the shiny-toothed DK this blast is courtesy of Hexstatic. Yes, Hexstatic are most well-known for their audiovisual shenanigans but you can lose the visuals and still enjoy the skillage n even a blind man can see that. In fact, Robin Hexstatic has been a long term contributor to the Solid Steel radio show and is held to be the tightest mixer in the crew because of the way he never seems to crash his beats. And if that sounds a little like too much DJ-speak, letis just say they sound smoothy-great-lubbalicious, baybayOe While thereis the same levels of hard work and pure lurve that characterise the Solid Steel acolyteis unhealthy obsession with music, thereis not a whiff of anorak here. Hexstatic just want you to jump up on your sofa, wave your underpants round your head and give it up, give it up, give it up. Big, bouncing gut, sweaty, man-breasts, naked style to some classic party monsters. Oh yeah. And now weire cooking. Youire up on the sofa naked enjoying yourself despite your natural reticence and then we drop the bomb(shell) on you. Hexstatic made the mix partly on CD decks. And before you scream blasphemy (spittle showering us and the soft furnishings) we point out that St Josh of Davis has already endorsed them and anyway, Hexstatic havenit just used them like the old 1200s but have actually explored the technological pwossibilitE (as they say) of the form. Check for the crazed time stretch effects they have coaxed from these black boxes and shout through the wall at your neighbours, "Ooh, theyire not just entertainers. They know their shit, too." Throw in (why not?) a brand new exclusive track in "Telemetron," with specially made video on the CD, an extensive journey through the boysi first love - electro, plus funk, reggae, rock, hip hop and must-have porn groaning and you have a killer mix. Of course you get all the Solid Steel goodies too, like special intros, custom made tracks, special editsOe.weire just too good to you. In fact, you could put this on at almost any party and the place will be rocking it, rocking it. Even if it is just you and the furniture. You see n we care. We really rrreally care.

***The dynamic duo, Hexstatic, return to the fray with When Robots Go Bad!, their finest album yet. Taking their electro obsession to greater heights than ever before, "WRGB" finds Robin Brunson and Stuart Warren-Hill mashing up sounds and influences in search of the ultimate machine groove.

From first track "Red Laser Beam" they lay out their wares - crunching guitar samples, huge drum box beats and enough synths to drown a nation beneath a sea of (sine) waves. It's such a euphoric opening that it's hard to imagine how they can keep the pressure up. First single "Roll Over" quickly lays any fears to rest. Featuring new vocal find Sabirajade, this is a swinging groove of heavily-layered keyboards and soulful, sultry vocals. "Tokyo Traffic" takes the tempo up again for an acidic, glitchy, serialist pop-locker of a tune that just about makes sense of the term "future-retro". "Freak Me" features B+, a female MC from Oz, who effortlessly rides a more minimalist, sexy, funky riff.

Continuing the sexy theme, "Prom Night Party" is a complete re-work of a classic 'lost' track from Mike Ladd's "Majesticons" project. Electronic ode to love "TLC" gives the boys an opportunity to take the tempo right down, whereas "Move On" (featuring Edinburgh MC Profisee) starts to drive us forward again. B+ returns on "A Different Place", a floating electronic groove that shows she can do much more than rap. "Subway" is another tune for a new generation of breakers, Profisee offering a paen to underground music inspired by the forced fears of a nation. From "Lab Rat" onward the vocoder takes over - "Newton's Cradle," "Newaves" and the superb "Bust" offering an object lesson in the contrasting ways in which synths and drum boxes can be used to create superb, funny, funky, driving dance music.
