***Welcome to the world of an attention-deficit-disorder musician. Following a flurry of collaborations, remixes and assorted undocumented sound capers, the prolific Kid Twist coughs up his debut EP for the LOAF label. A rightous blast through the generes mixed into a Molotov cocktail of northern soul, bass-heavy electro, post-punk spunk and glitchy techno, this is soulful pop music with laconic new wave disco slant. Like Jamie Lidells hairy Scottish cousin on a sunny day beach stroll with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. Kid Twist is Colin Bailey, a native of Oban (a small fishing town on the west coast of Scotland) who re-located to Glasgow as a keen nipper to play in Metal bands. There he immersed himself in the vibrant electronic music scene that inspired him to make the music in front of you now. Moving to London, Kid Twist met up with LOAF label-mate Pierre Conti (the man behind Andrea's Kit)who helped with production duties on this EP. Along a handful of early adopters of the Twist Sound is Mary-Anne Hobbs, who has already aired demo versions of "I Can't Dance" and "Ah Oo Ee You You" on her late night R1 Show. Meantime our man is busy working on his debut album, produced by electronica pioneer (and Bjork/U2 conspirator) Howie B, while continuing to DJ at and co-promote one of Glasgow"s fastest growing club nights, Kaput!. 30-second MP3 excerpts: I Can't Dance Calculator Canada Day Voices & Light Ah Oo Ee You You |
