***Virus Syndicate are Manchester's most notorious grime crew, representing the whole of North-West UK with their inimitable style. Their debut album, The Work Related Illness, is everything anyone could hope for in this arena, a cartoon gangster movie with a beginning, middle and ending. The eleven tracks here tell a story, each could easily have been released as a single. Full of humor, the Virus Syndicate not only diss other MCs, but poke fun at themselves. On "Girls" they come out in full misogynist glory but end up with the girls anyway. On "Wasted," well... they get wasted. The hair-raising two-song finale, "Get Money" followed by "Taxman" must be heard to be believed. The Work Related Illness may not have the promotional budget of the majors but for our money it's the grime album of the year by far. - Debut full-length from top UK grime innovators
