IN THE RED

Artist: FUSE, THE Title: Fisherman's Wife
Format: LP Catalog
Number:
ITR105
Price: $8.25 Label: In The Red
Release
Date:
11/10/03
***As their description by one writer as "Crass meets The Who" should make obvious, The Fuse! must be seen and heard to be believed. Three razor sharp Hispanic kids (known mysteriously as F-1, F-2, and F-3) from Downey, California (yup, home of the Carpenters), instantly surpass all revolutionary rhetoric by literally attacking their instruments as well as physically assaulting the audience. The Fuse! don't need to spend all day perfecting their chops; their guitar is going right through your skull as you dance uncontrollably to an insane racket of total discontent. But there are actual songs on Fisherman's Wife, too. They are the sound of the new frustration.

Anyone who has peeked into F-2's journal while he frantically scribbles in it at the Three of Clubs (where he's always sipping some pink tropical drink) knows that he's nothing short of a mad, pissed genius. The Fuse! are way too impatient to be part of the aping-Gang-Of-Four-and-PiL scene, and are way too violent for boring punk-blues scholarship. Big sigh of relief there, right? Two years into their chaotic career and they've already had a documentary made about them - before releasing an actual recording.

TIGERBEAT 6

Artist: CRACK: W.A.R. (WE ARE ROCK) Title: Cosmic Mind Flight
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
MEOW085
Price: $6.75 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
11/10/03
***From the murky border between the urban jungle and the smoldering forests of Hades comes Crack: We Are Rock. Spawned as a cough syrup-fueled dream somewhere in the Midwest ca. 1995, founder King Riff brought his vision to San Francisco and performed under the Crack:WAR banner with a revolving cast of savants and sociopaths. Eventually teaming up with black metal poseur Obscuratron, the line-up solidified with the addition of L'Erin and Le Kim, sirens with a poetic vision who had fallen off the back of a caravan in a Satanic children's circus.

After touring the US and Japan, Crack:WAR dropped Silent Fantasy on an unsuspecting public. Combining electronics gone wrong with glue-sniffer schoolyard taunts and festering disco rhythms, Crack:WAR gave robo-chic the surrealist bathroom beatdown it savagely deserved.

Crack:WAR immersed themselves in their collective obsessions (specter-infested woods, fiendish horsemen, and New Age warfare) and now unleash a full-length fever dream-journey into a psychedelic future where rainbow-coated simians control the machines and bloodied unicorns sip wine with shrouded reptiles.
