JOE KELLY (vocals, guitar) was throwing rock dance parties at a Filipino sailor's club in Norfolk when he decided to move to New York City with OLIVER ACKERMANN of A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS in pursuit of happiness. They built a bunker and named it Death By Audio after Oliver’s guitar pedal company. It became home to a recording studio, DIY venue and Record label of the same name. GREG WILSON (drums) moved in. Joe and Greg did mushrooms and Greg passed out and busted his face open. They needed more roommates to help pay the rent so they invited Greg’s brother, GEORGE WILSON (bass) from the indie-pop band DIRTY ON PURPOSE along for the ride. Joe got high as shit and started performing with the Wilson brothers. They named the band COIN UNDER TONGUE and played shows with some friends like Spoon and Sisters. Joe Kelly smoked salvia and walked into a Tony Conrad performance. A sewer pipe busted and spilled raw sewage into the warehouse and everyone got sick. Cops busted Coin Under Tongue's album release party at Death By Audio, arresting some of its residents. From the chaos, filth, and pursuit of happiness emerged Coin Under Tongue!s fervent debut release. This 12-inch double EP features a self-titled EP on Side A and the Hussies At Bay EP on Side B. Throughout both sides, Coin Under Tongue demonstrates their ability to seamlessly combine elements of punk, metal, and post-punk to create ferocious and engaging songs. Never mundane, their sound shifts between chugging, anthemic rock, and trickier, rhythm-driven grooves. The result is an infectious fist-pounding-teeth-gritting-beer-flying good time. Hand screened sleeves. Includes a download coupon.
