Brackles' duties as a regular warm-up DJ at the infamous London Dubstep Night FWD, as well his regular appearances on Rinse FM, have earned him a reputation as a skilled selector and man of good taste. Inspired by all the right stuff--Slimzee, Horsepower, Dilla, El-B, MJ Cole--Brackles (a.k.a. Rob Kemp) is probably the best DJ around right now. With a sound a million miles away from the current blokey, sludgy dubstep fare, this kid effortlessly incorporates funky, rolling grime, vintage two-step, and bassline into his energetic, elastic sets. Following releases on Berkane Sol, Pollen, and Apple Pips, Brackles makes his debut appearance for Planet Mu with his 12-inch single. Silky smooth synthlines bob and weave around a rolling bass like the tide coming in. "Sutorita Faita" ("Street Fighter"), a collaboration with Shortstuff (a.k.a. Richard Attley), brings a tougher beat. With grimey bass and a lolloping rhythm, it's in the details that these boys shine.
