In 2007, Oris Jay’s influence has never been more powerful. Over the last decade, his dark sound revolutionized the UK garage and breaks scenes and laid the foundations for 21st century dubstep. Tunes like “Said the Spider” and “Raisin’ Kane” cemented his reputation as a garage master and creator of an influential sound all his own. This is the boy who wrote the book.  Following the revitalization of his label Texture last year, Jay has supplied Planet Mu with two hot tunes which have been supported on dub in recent months. “Maximum Reespek” has a melody that circles ’round your head and the heaviest of breaks, while the flip “Ghost Not Memory” revives the skippiness of 2-Step Garage with the added menacing bass of ’07.  There are lovers of Jay’s beats everywhere—Mary Anne Hobbs and Plastician from BBC Radio 1; dubstep DJs Skream, Loefah, Distance, and Pinch; breaks boys Stanton Warriors, BLIM, Freq Nasty and Aquasky; broken beat kings Dego (4 Hero), Charlie Dark (Attica Blues) and Bugz in the Attic; 2-step names MJ Cole, Pay As U Go, and Heartless Crew; and more. He had a UK Top-40 hit with his tune “Trippin’,” collaborated with everyone from Ms Dynamite to Rodney P, and has released records on labels including Polydor, Tectonic, EMI, Bingo, Storming Productions, and Hospital Records.
