NastyNasty’s Jasper Reeder is a Bay Area dubstep producer whose Planet Mu debut pits mournful, pitch-altered vocal melodies against a rough, modulated bassline and 8-bit chimes to catchy and memorable effect. On the B-side, Heterotic (a.k.a. Mike Paradinas and Lara Rix-Martin) puts together an upbeat remix, pitching up and looping the sample. Building loose, panned drums and a rushing arpeggio into an optimistic, almost romantic crescendo, it sports sweet chords and glassy tones that sit somewhere between juke and synth pop.
