Categorizing Sebastian Rochford poses problems. Jazz is at the heart of his work, yet his understanding of and engagement with a wide range of genres are such that it's impossible to shoehorn his recordings into neat and tidy boxes. Peepers is Rochford's fourth album as the leader and percussionist of the London-based Polar Bear, alongside collaborators Leafcutter John, Tom Herbert, Pete Wareham, and Mark Lockheart.

Metaphonic Portrait 1230 A.d.
Actual Noise
K11 is the nom de plume of Italian sound artist Pietro Riparbelli. On his last release as K11, 2009's Voices from Thelema (Aurora Borealis) Riparbelli visited the ruins of Aleister Crowley's Thelema Abbey in Cefalu, Sicily, where he documented signals and sounds coming through short-wave radio receivers--an instrumental trans-communication ritual, acting as a conduit for whatever spirits remain in the Abbey.

Wolf, Josiah
Jet Lag
Anticon
The debut album from WHY? multi-instrumentalist Josiah Wolf offers up a rare achievement--a solo work with true legs of its own. Wolf's visual snapshots illustrate the wistfulness of a mundane moment and offer canny excavations of those poignancies that lie beneath the surface: tough triumphs, tougher truths, and outright failures.

Audiofilm Ii
Crucial Blast
Audiofilm II is the second installment in the Crucial Blast series of limited-edition 3" CDs from Scott Hull. Best known for his amazing thrash/grind riffage in the bands Pig Destroyer and Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Scott has been gradually revealing another side of his musical persona over the past few years, an obsession with cinematic soundscaping and darkly evocative film scores, mutant electronic textures and pitch-black isolationism that employs brilliant production trickery to immerse the listener in a vibrantly active aural environment.

Profound Lore
For the better part of the decade, San Francisco's Ludicra has cultivated a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest and most forward-thinking bands in the contemporary underground metal scene. They were one of the first inspired by the second wave of Norwegian black metal to fuse that sound with punk, traditional metal, and neo-folk elements, and alongside the now-legendary Weakling, they put Bay Area metal back on the map as a hotbed of artistic fervor.
