THE DRY SPELLS, a San Francisco-based, female-led ensemble, create a unique sound drawing from traditional folk ballads of lost loves, unimaginable sorrows, and nostalgia for a forgotten past, charged with an array of electric and acoustic instrumentation and intricate vocal harmonies. The band headed to SF following college graduation and soon joined fellow Bard alumnus EZRA FEINBERG, who was in the process of assembling the critically lauded, retro-prog-psych transcendentalist outfit CITAY. Before long, much of the Dry Spells lineup were splitting time in Citay, appearing on the Little Kingdom album, released on Dead Oceans. Soon, the Dry Spells came into their own as part of a very supportive SF scene. They shared stages with friends like Vetiver, The Entrance Band, Papercuts, Thao Nguyen, The Botticellis, Bart Davenport, and Black Fiction, and before long headed into the studio with rock auteur TIM GREEN to lay down their debut album on analog tape. The Dry Spells debut album, Too Soon For Flowers is a collection of exquisitely crafted songs that couple bewitching lyrics with bold vocal harmony and strings interplay, offering a palpable sense of loss and sorrow. Yet like the folk traditionals by which they are inspired, The Dry Spells offer redemption in their melodies, a sense of hope realized in chiming harmonies.
