“Well, I guess I'll just give you a short history. I was born in Indianapolis, moved to Atlanta, and have lived in Carmel [Indiana] since I was 4. My earliest memory of music is my mother playing me ‘Puff The Magic Dragon’ as a bedtime lullaby. The first CD I got was Weezer's The Blue Album, the melodies combined with amazing guitar and catchy pop songs blew my mind, and it still is one of my favorite albums. I had always wanted to play guitar but my parents never took it too seriously, they are the least artful people in the world, so I saved up every cent I had when I was 12 and I bought my first guitar. I spent 4 or 5 hours a day playing it, it was all I would do, it was my life in middle school. Around the time I entered high school, I began to write songs. I would stay up 'til 3 in the morning writing. These late productive nights led to a collection of over 400 recordings of riffs and song demos. Long nights of listening to Weezer, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Elliott Smith, and Grandaddys helped me to develop a somewhat distinct sound. But never would I ever have thought I would show anyone my music, it was a just a hobby in my mind and nothing more. It was not until a snoopy friend discovered my music on my laptop that I decided to start showing people and acting on it. I have never been a huge self promoter, as I have always not wanted to be the kid who begged people who didn't give a hell to listen to his music. Around my town, I played a few shows, but they were never stand out performances, the music scene in Carmel is sad. My recorder and mixer, Zack [Anselm], I met at a young age, we have had many basement recording/jam sessions, and he has always wanted to help me record. Me and my friends have had many a late day and nights recording and playing in friends' basements and houses, there is nothing to do in my town, music took care of our boredom. A town stuck listening to Lil Wayne and Soulja Boy caused me and my friends to revolt and discover a lot of new and less-known music. This CD is a collection of songs from over the past few years. Some are very personal, some are whimsical stories. Now, I am a current student at IU [Indiana University], and I guess I'll see if I can survive in college.”—Hypocrite In A Hippy Crypt
