Artist: BLACK BONED ANGEL Title: Bliss & Void Inseparable
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 003 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
5/22/06
***The latest and greatest from Campbell Kneale’s Black Boned Angel alter-ego. Another one-hour metallic drone epic that picks up where the critically unclaimed Supereclipse fiasco left off. Less suffocating than its unbearably caustic predecessor, Bliss & Void Inseparable sees Kneale creating a funereal dirge that merges the ferocious power of Black Boned Angel with the blissful dronespace of his main project Birchville Cat Motel. This makes for a journey that is both meditative and monumentally metallic satiating those into the more spacious forays of CORRUPTED, the Sub-Pop era recordings of EARTH or GODHEADSILO and the existential eccentricities of Z’EV or TRIBES OF NEUROT.

Artist: BLACK BONED ANGEL Title: The Endless Coming Into Life
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN023
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
8/18/08
***Campbell Kneale, of prolific one-man bliss drone project Birchville Cat Motel, returns to his metallic alter-ego Black Boned Angel.

Both projects chase a similar idea from different ends of the spectrum. The Endless Coming Into Life is Kneale's third full-length release as Black Boned Angel (in addition to a slew of CDR EPs), all released by 20 Buck Spin. This work is perhaps Kneale's most obvious combination of the extreme minimalism of his ambient tendencies and the extreme maximalism of his forays into the center of the subterranean metal guitar riff. The album first lulls one into a meditative state of relative calm before plummeting into the chasm created by the vibrations of a single, snarling riff so heavy it could rip a hole in the heavens.

Consisting of a sole one-hour track, The Endless Coming Into Life sits comfortably alongside the darker end of Kneale's ever-growing catalog of work dedicated to finding the light (or dark) source of the universal drone.

Artist: COFFINS Title: Buried Death
Format: LP Catalog
Number:
SPIN020
Price: $16.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
7/7/08
***On their 3rd LP Tokyo's Coffins are firmly established as the underground's leading purveyors of neanderthal-paced doomed death metal. Previous LPs The Other Side Of Blasphemy and Mortuary In Darkness introduced Coffins' black tar dirge to an audience eager for slowppressive maniac riffs and songs dragged forth like the arms of a lumbering ape.

Buried Death is derivative and true rather then progressive and new, with an effectiveness unmatched in today's underground, recalling Bay Area forefathers, Autopsy. Immediately battering the listener with the opening sledgehammer "Under The Stench" the album crawls ever forward through the catchiest Coffins tracks ever, like the Frost at 16 RPM narcoplunder of "Cadaver Blood". The patented brick heavy guitar tone remains and the band has added some additional solos and high vocal screams, hinted at on 2006's The Other Side... LP. Rather than toy with forced "evolution" Coffins has instead sharpened and honed its devolved sound further in its primitive singlemindedness.

Artist: COFFINS Title: Other Side Of Blasphemy
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 007 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
9/11/06
***Coffins was spawned from a need to create slow, crawling detuned death metal in the vein of old masters like AUTOPSY and WINTER. An obvious HELLHAMMER/FROST obsession rears its putrid head upon opening this Coffin as well. Bringing the pain all the way from Japan, Coffins' second full length release The Other Side Of Blasphemy is derivative in the best possible sense of the word. No frills, just thrills for those disgusted at the mockery nowadays metal seems to have become. Where are the bands like CARNAGE and old GRAVE? Mid-paced, skull-crushing death metal and brutally low vocals . Coffins carries the torch that very few seem to bear.

Artist: COFFINS / THE ARM & SWORD OF A BASTARD GOD Title: Split
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 013 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
8/20/07
***COFFINS has made a big name for themselves in the year since the release of their universally praised second full length The Other Side Of Blasphemy. Fans of death metal, doom and crust have all flocked to the impossibly catchy old school approach Coffins call their own.

On this split, Coffins returns with their first new material since the release of the LP, two brand new classics and a cover in tribute to old gods Pungent Stench. SoCal's long-but-awesomely-monikered THE ARM & SWORD OF A BASTARD GOD make their four-track debut on the split.

. Similar in style to both Graves At Sea and Coffins with some added dirt ‘n’ grime production and insanely pissed guttural vocals, The Arm & Sword... are among the best new bands to come from the barren sun burnt wastelands outside LA. The CD also features amazing new artwork from DAVID D’ANDREA. Features special vertical gatefold packaging.

Artist: ENDLESS BLOCKADE Title: Primitive
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 019 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:

***THE ENDLESS BLOCKADE is a band from Toronto that plays Power-Violence. Taking the foundations of the genre’s forebears (Crossed Out, No Comment, MITB, etc) and streamlining it for today’s harsh realities, The Endless Blockade is furious hardcore meets crawling sludge. Primitive is the Blockade’s second LP, following the debut LP Turn Illness Into A Weapon, several EPs and split LPs (with Iron Lung, Warzone Womyn and Hatred Surge). Primitive is the band’s most fully realized work thus far, with great care taken in tying the album together musically, visually and lyrically. SCOTT HULL’s mix is both clear and raw while GLYN SMYTH’s artwork visually represents the doomsday cults, fanatics and radicals that provide the backdrop for the LP’s deranged pace and surgically precise twists and turns. The Blockade’s affinity for the diseased power-electronics and noise genres (think Slogun, Whitehouse) also plays a more significant role on Primitive. (STREET DATE - 5/20/2008)

Artist: FORGOTTEN WOODS Title: Race Of Cain
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 014 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
6/18/07
***Legendary Norwegian black metal group FORGOTTEN WOODS returns after a 10-year hiatus. Raise of Cain is no comeback album however. Rather it’s a continuation of the band’s singular style and vision, showing that their brand of ultra-raw, grim black metal has much room for originality within its boundaries. 20 Buck Spin will reissue the band’s 1990s back catalog later in the year.

Artist: GRAVES AT SEA Title: Documents Of Grief
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 006 CD
Price: $9.50 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
5/22/06
***GRAVES AT SEA from Arizona have made a lot of noise in the underground the past few years. Already considered one of the best Doom bands in existence the band has yet to issue their debut LP (coming later this year on a much bigger label)! Documents Of Grief was self-released by the band back in 2003 and quickly sold out and hasn’t been seen since. The band followed it up with an EP for the SOUTHERN LORD 7 inch series and then last years highly praised split album with ASUNDER (released by 20 BUCK SPIN on vinyl). 20 BUCK SPIN loved Documents Of Grief so much that we convinced the band to let us release it officially in anticipation of their debut LP and their upcoming May 2006 tour, and for those who missed out before. This is an essential document of Doom’s present and future!

Artist: GREY DATURAS / MONARCH Title: Dawn Of The Catalyst Split
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 016 CD
Price: $9.50 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
9/24/07
***Two respected underground heavyweights pair up on Dawn Of The Catalyst. Australia’s GREY DATURAS have built a solid following over the last few years through constant touring worldwide with artists like Neurosis, Wolf Eyes and Yellow Swans (having also released splits with the latter two). Their combination of Sonic Youth-style guitar-improv freakouts with more detuned doomed ambience and all out noise has attracted fans from all dank corners of underground music. France’s female-fronted MONARCH is that country’s entry into the slo-mo nihilistic utterly oppressive doom genre where they’ve distinguished themselves from their peers in both sound and aesthetics. On Dawn Of The Catalyst each band contributes one extended track, both veering to the more experimental, droning, lurching side of their collective personas. A split to be felt more than simply heard, it requires full volume and full bass frequencies for maximum effect. (STREET DATE - 10/02/2007)

Artist: HALF MAKESHIFT Title: L’Anse Amort
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 015 CD
Price: $9.50 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
8/20/07
***HALF MAKESHIFT is the solo project of Pennsylvania's NATHAN MICHAEL . The first release under the Half Makeshift moniker, Aphotic Leech, released by Utech Records, was a single expansive track of strained piano, ominous war drums and subterranean guitar noise described by Brainwashed as "nothing short of massive" and "an entire world of sound with viscerally effective moments." L'anse Amort contains four tracks that expand on Aphotic Leech's density, creating more space and reflection, more peaks and valleys. The monumental 17-minute opener "Whale Heart" builds from a simple melody and crackling electro-static to eventually collapse under its own weight in a huge Nadja-esque wall of drone riffery. Tracks like "Oblivion" and the title track recall the vast landscapes of Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore and even Radiohead at their most adventurous. Different from anything previously released by 20 Buck Spin, L'anse Amort is epic in a way most "post-rock" bands can only aspire to. Comes specially packaged in a vertical gatefold with four photographic postcards.

Artist: HUMANFLY Title: 2
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 021 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
3/31/08
***Between post-metal, psychedelic post-rock and whatever ever other post-genre label gets writers juiced comes Leeds based riff merchants HUMANFLY. Formed in the early part of the decade and including people from well known Brits CANVAS, Humanfly offer six vast, epic, metallic journeys through huge NeurISIS style heaviness and Pink Floyd via Mogwai atmospherics. Tunes like “Echoes Of The Roman Empire” and “Tjanargata / A Passage To Reykjavik” are given ample space to breathe and build before inevitably crashing into a mountain of mammoth, celestial volume. With the shortest track more than 8 minutes and the longest over 13, each song is a two or three part saga within itself. Vocals are used sparingly focusing primarily on building thematically through the music. Not yet well-known outside their native UK, the release of II by 20 Buck Spin will introduce Humanfly to a larger audience and push the band to the forefront of the post-post-rockmetal “genre.” (STREET DATE - 4/08/2008)

Artist: MRTYU Title: Blood Tantra
Format: 2xCD Catalog

Price: $13.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
5/22/06
***Imagine a fucked up crossbreed of (Salt Marie Celeste era) NURSE WITH WOUND, KHANATE and THROBBING GRISTLE and you can start to imagine the sound of New Zealand’s MRTYU! MRTYU! is Antony Milton of the PseudoArcana label, NETHER DAWN, a BLACK BONED ANGEL member, and a proflific solo artist with releases on LAST VISIBLE DOG, JEWELLED ANTLER, CELEBRATE PSI, etc... The sound is a mix of back woods New Zealand and modern urban decay. When the deep bass detonations lash out on “Rites of Death in Body Temple” you’re not quite sure whether it’s the sound of an ancient Aboriginal ritual or the menacing 808 war march of a midnight low-rider with its lights low and sawed-offs strapped. Harsh noise, Industrial Sludge & Narco-Metal meeting at the crossing of the Styx.

Artist: NORDVARGR Title: Helvete
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
NORD 01 CD
Price: $19.75 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
5/12/08
***The newest creation from Villa Bohult, the NORDVARGR family burial vault. This time the “cursed poet” WREST from the USBM LEVIATHAN CULT and DRAKHON (BEYOND SENSORY EXPERIENCE, MZ. 412) have joined the night sessions of the never sleeping Swedish zombie. It would be totally insane to be waiting for something life-asserting, light and positive for the three of them. Helvete is just the overwhelming Darkness and the ice-cold all-filling Terror. Meditative and sinister Dark Ambient rhythms are filled with the ominous whisper of Wrest and Drakh. Deep and lengthy drones as well as the charming atmosphere of the Swedish industrial decadence. Super limited edition pressing.

Artist: RAKHIM Title: Crimson Umbrella
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 010 CD
Price: $9.50 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
4/9/07
***What if Z’ev had written the intro to Darkthrone’s Blaze In The Northern Sky? With that question in mind Finland’s RAKHIM unearth Crimson Umbrella, a two-track fit of kraut-noise psychosis, schizophrenic percussive clatter and layers of effects and over-processed vocal chants and screams. The nightmarish deconstruction of “Transylvanian Error” and “Ultimate Sword” bare only trace elements of main members KRYPT and RUDIMENTOR’s day jobs in CIRCLE and PHARAOH OVERLORD, with Rakhim indulging in sonic terror too far gone for the aforementioned bands. Although the album’s title makes reference to Finland’s great Jesters Of Destiny, Rakhim would more aptly call to mind Wolf Eyes filtered through a lengthy Faust tape jam. Best experienced through headphones at appropriately ear-bleeding volume.

Artist: SANCTUM Title: On The Horizon
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 018 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
3/17/08
***Along with their comrades in Oakland’s Stormcrow, Seattle’s SANCTUM are the new standard for crust obsessed metal, or War Crust as the kids call it. Raised on a diet of influences such as Bolt Thrower, Extreme Noise Terror, Entombed, Unleashed and Amebix, Sanctum mesh the best aspects of all those bands into a storming, unhinged cacophony of metallic upheaval. On On The Horizon, the band continues to crush the cenotaph. Includes seven bonus tracks taken from the band’s two early vinyl EPs--Sanctum and Enslaved. Packaged in sturdy oversized gatefold CD jackets.

Artist: SANCTUM / STORMCROW Title: Split
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 012 CD
Price: $9.50 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
6/11/07
***Oakland’s STORMCROW and Seattle’s SANCTUM are relative newcomers, having both only existed for a few years time. However, listening to their epic split album, both bands sound like seasoned veterans of a scene that began when they were but children. Both bands play an impossibly heavy brand of War Crust as they like to call it, influenced primarily by England’s mighty Bolt Thrower with additional direct ties to crust forefathers like the legendary Amebix and Axegrinder. Stormcrow tend to build longer, more epic and metalized songs while Sanctum keep it to shorter, sharper attacks, both utilizing the infamous D-beat to ultimate effect, and tuning low enough to sound like a battalion of warriors charging to battle. Already considered a classic in the crust division.

Artist: TREES Title: Light’S Bane
Format: LP Catalog
Number:
SPIN022
Price: $16.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
8/18/08
***The darkened sky and rain-soaked soil of Portland, Oregon, gave birth to the sickly black doom of Trees. Their two-track debut is a shivering trudge through murky, thick, sub-bass sludge riffs with an occasional beat or two.

Recalling the early days of Sub Pop-era Earth and the diseased doom of Burning Witch, Trees continue in the fine tradition of low-end wreckage that the Pacific Northwest seems to breed in its purest (de)form. With a vocalist who would terrify even Graves At Sea with his depraved screams and oral exorcisms, Trees create an atmosphere of psychic terror, like an acid trip gone horribly awry. The members of the band are all long-time adherents to the art of the slow-motion concussion; some share time in Portland drone wizards Tecumseh.

This vinyl version of Light's Bane is strictly limited to a one-time pressing of only 500 copies.

Artist: VARGR Title: Northern Black Supremacy

***HENRIK “NORDVARGR” BJORKK is a familiar name in underground experimental noise circles, and black metal circles alike. From his work with the pioneering black industrial band MZ.412 to his many solo ventures under his own name, to collaborations with MERZBOW, to other projects like FOLKSTORM and TOROIDH, Bjorkk has been prolific to say the least. The common element in all his work has been overwhelming darkness and dread. Under the VARGR moniker, Bjorkk returns to his roots in a way. The foundation of Northern Black Supremacy is black metal, of the coldest variety (think Ildjarn or Beherit), but it’s buried in a no-fi terror soundtrack complete with eerie samples and anguished screams recalling his work in MZ.412. One of the harshest statements in Bjorkk’s vast cannon of releases, Northern Black Supremacy captures perfectly the coldest essence of Scandinavian black metal through a filter of unthinkable horror and militancy. In his words: No Trend. No Feeling. No Production. No Mercy. (STREET DATE - 10/30/2007)

Artist: WHITEHORSE Title: Whitehorse
Format: 2xCD Catalog

SPIN 011 CD
Price: $13.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
6/11/07
***Known in their native Australia as the country’s most prominent underground doom band, WHITEHORSE are now poised to make their worldwide debut for 20 Buck Spin with their self-titled double-CD. Collecting brand new studio material, along with tracks from their limited edition LP from the Conspiracy Records 10th anniversary series and other short-run releases, Whitehorse’s doom is of the monstrously slow, detuned, feedbacking, glassthroat variety that so many love, and so many others loathe. At times mixing in improv guitar noise à la their countrymen in Grey Daturas, and at others, quieter atmosphere to add peaks and valleys to the epic length jams, the music always centers around crushing riffs and drums that sound as though they’ll collapse at any moment. Already well-known throughout the land, yet only now making their official debut, Whitehorse is set to destroy doom for good in 2007.

Artist: WORMWOOD Title: Starvation
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
SPIN 009 CD
Price: $12.00 Label: 20 Buck Spin
Release
Date:
2/19/07
***NOW AVAILABLE ON CD!!! WORMWOOD originated in Lawrence, Kansas back in 1997. 10 years and a move to Seattle later Starvation, the band’s second full-length epic, is ready to be unleashed. Building on the foundations laid out on 2000’s debut LP Requiescat, Starvation is a swirling vortex of psychedelic panic, doom-crusted metal and somber minor key prog mania. Imagine Souls At Zero-era Neurosis with the apocalypse turned inward, or Tarantula Hawk and Crash Worship on a black doom metal bender. Not surprisingly BILLY ANDERSON’s (Neurosis, Swans, Sleep) production signature graces Starvation, highlighting the double bass guitar technicality and sample-laden paranoia. Starvation is an album that must be digested over the course of multiple listens to fully comprehend everything going on in its vast, insular 70-minute-plus mental web.
