***Back in print as a CD5! (originally pressed as a 3" CD)

Black Dice formed during the spring of 1997 in Providence, Rhode Island, as a loud, chaotic mix of early-'80s-inspired thrash and harsh noise experimentation. Early shows seldom lasted more than 15 minutes and were characterized by violent performances where injuries were often sustained by Bjorn Copeland (guitar), Hisham Bharoocha (drums), Eric Copeland (vocals), Sebastian Blanck (bass), and the audience alike. Live sets mixed structured songs with improvised sound manipulation and shows differed from night to night.

In the summer of 1998 the band relocated to NYC; at an early New York performance, the band met Aaron Warren, who later replaced Sebastian. Around this time the emphasis shifted from conventional song structures to more open-ended sonic investigations. Black Dice maintained an equally physical presence through the use of high volume levels and an extreme range of frequencies, though injuries became less frequent. The music bore more resemblance to crude, first-generation industrial music or contemporary power electronics than straight noise or hardcore. Importantly, many of the changes in sound were related to the use of outdated electronics and unconventional instrumentation.

By the fall of 2001 live shows had grown to almost five or six times the length of earlier sets, with the occasional song reaching 45 minutes. The unorthodox instrumentation continued to evolve, and an emphasis on signal processing provided a broader range of sounds to work with. While volume and physical presence of sound remained crucial, melody and repetition became key elements that songs were composed upon. The shift in focus introduced a new gentle and tuneful quality to the intense, brash music. Currently, the music retains elements of noise and proto-industrial experimentation, while organically suggesting minimal, ambient electronic, and psychedelic ideas, as well as those of tropicalia and dub. Black Dice is now the organized presentation of improvised sound, assembled into deliberate structures based on visual concepts.

The band has toured America four times. Houses and warehouses have served as venues as often as clubs, though currently the band's desire for high fidelity sound demands a superior PA system than what such alternative spaces generally provide. However, placing the music in a context contrary to the average show remains a compelling inspiration for unique performances.

  • Beaches & Canyons LP/CD (DFA) blowing minds left, right and center
  • The balls of both the white belt and art-damage scenes firmly in their grasp
  • Sure, it's a more ambient, music-for-airports direction, but these guys have stuck their share of drumsticks up their asses

Artist: BOY FROM BRAZIL Title: Pointless Shoes
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
MEOW117
Price: $9.25 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
8/22/05
***In the winter of 2001, in the bowels of Berlin, the Boy From Brazil was brought to life. With subzero temperatures and little fresh air or natural light, the Boy (also known as Razi) locked himself in a stuffy basement with little more than a Macintosh and a vision, and emerged with a sexy, throbbing, and psychotic sound: the future of rock'n'roll. Digging through the debris of previous eras-- '50s rockabilly, '60s instrumentals, '70s porn soundtracks, German electronic, French pop, disco and punk-- he developed a unique sonic scramble. His debut EP has been described as "a little stormer that mixes the sonic assault of Suicide, the guitar hooks of the B-52's, the drums of the Flying Lizards and the vocals of Lux Interior... and even a cool cover of Serge Gainsbourg."

In the late 1990s the Boy toured the world as front man of hedonist trash band the Golden Showers. Before that he played bass with the French/German pop phenomenon Stereo Total. Somewhere in between he also formed the group Give Up with Shizuo and Anika Trost and toured the US with Atari Teenage Riot.

On Pointless Shoes he's joined by collaborators Captain Comatose, Christoph de Babalon, Patric Catani, Nicole Morier, Jörg Hiller, Gonzales, Naila Chaudry, Conrad Standish, Pascal Stoffels, Snax, Electronicat, Angie Reed and Tico Zamora. Boy From Brazil's live show has already made quite an impact, building an impressive fan base including Peaches, Suicide and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, who invited him to join them on European dates. There will be more shows in Fall / Winter '05 featuring an amazing video show by VJ Safy Sniper and a guaranteed wild live performance.

Artist: BUG VS. ROOTSMAN FEATURING DADDY FREDDY / DJ RUTURE Title: Split
Format: 12" Catalog
Number:
MEOW072
Price: $4.00 Label: Tigerbeat 6

***The Bug & DJ /Rupture have declared turf war. In a volatile face-off between two kinetically charged contemporary electronics producers, this combination mash up, dancehall destruction, hip hop malfunktion and structural deconstruction assures a suitably intense future for soundclash battles. A thinly disguised audio abattoir masquerading as a six-track EP, this explosive exchange steals the tools of the dub and dancehall trade for maximum disorientation. Weapons are set to stun, and artificial genre divides are militantly blitzed.

"Imitator," a caustic collaboration by The Bug (aka Kevin Martin of Techno Animal) with UK dub guru The Rootsman that triggers yardcore chaos with hyper-ragga headrush, combines a relentless, military snare roll worthy of the mighty Streetsweeper rhythm, power electronics capable of drowning out Whitehouse, and an unfeasibly elasticated bassline that would rival Mr. Oizo for booty-swinging funk. It's got serrated, low-end punch and Daddy Freddy's homicidal chants, while head-jamming special effects and ear-shredding sirens amplify the panic attack. The stripped down "Version" illuminates the dance floor directive while the Raw Meat mix of "Run The Place Red" has Daddy Freddy at his most vicious and hardcore.

DJ /Rupture returns with three tracks as complex and compelling as his jaw-dropping DJ sets. "Paloma Grease" is a high-speed headbanger in his ruffneck reggae / R&B style. Electro sub-bass weaves around his infectious, danceable drum programming, with hip-hop breakdowns and light instrumentation rounding things. "Into the Ohio River" and "Pitfall" feature poet Elizabeth Alexander, a prominent young voice in black America's energetic literary scene, whose topical, playful texts match the former track's slinky, harmonic polyriddims and melodic IDM edits fused with Rupture's otherworldly sampler arrangements. The latter draws on the bass-heavy Jamaican minimalism of King Tubby's Firehouse-era productions, catching Rupture in a relaxed but wary down-tempo mood, perfect for fans of neo-dub such as Chain Reaction/Rhythm & Sound. Alexander injects sexy wit with her poem loosely about the M.O.V.E. incident in Philadelphia.

Artist: BUG, THE Title: Pressure
Format: CD Catalog

MEOW076
Price: $12.00 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
4/7/03
***Since the critically acclaimed release of the Seismic 12-inch in late 2001, The Bug (aka Kevin Martin of Techno Animal, Ice, God, Curse of the Golden Vampire) has attracted high profile support from Andy Weatherall, Adrian Sherwood, Coldcut, Mark Stewart, DJ Rupture, Kid 606 and Aphex Twin (who was impressed enough to release Pressure on Rephlex).

Pressure provides heavyweight evidence of the bassbin blowing, mechanoid mash-ups that have become The Bug's trademark sound. Having been indelibly marked by the skull-crushing impact of UK dub, and increasingly obsessed with ragga's bionic gyrations, The Bug crunches reggae's sub-genres into a physically brutal, psychologically deep, low-end feast for non-conformist dance-floor fiends. From the thug-step ragga of "Beats, Bombs, Bass, Weapons," to the electronic dub of "Live & Learn," via the dancehall punk of "Killer," Pressure ignites basement anthems and exhausts the echo chamber, as basstronic frequencies are mercilessly exploited. Ignoring the stagnant digi-dub scene, bypassing retro-fixated roots revivalists and avoiding ill-advised attempts at Xeroxing ragga's current trends, The Bug has formulated fearsomely original future shock for electro mainliners and yardcore fanatics alike. With maniacal MCs, blissful crooners and a metaphysical poet, the range of vocals exemplifies the free thinking range of this album. Intense.

***The first single off of Cex's upcoming full-length album Tall, Dark, & Handcuffed is a wicked little chameleon that escaped from the tangled brain of Rjyan Kidwell. "Bad Acne" is a bouncy hip-hop track perfectly comfortable with its beautiful blemishes, content to be a radio party jam, a radical manifesto, a venomous battle rap, and an emo ritual all at once. Cex duets with his hometown pal MC Height on "K-12 Days of Hell," a song breaking down the frightening and awkward experience of grade school. "Ghost Rider" got fifteen-hundred people in Spain shouting "Get on your bikes and ride!" at the Sonar festival (and we all know that many Spaniards can't be wrong). People may debate whether this is cutting-edge underground hip-hop, an abrupt return to the old-school attitudes, the antidote to weak, early '8yes hard-rock revival nonsense, or some kind of incoherent satire, but while the dickheads argue, Kidwell will be making more tracks that move asses to the dancefloor. Or he'll be watching MTV. One or the other.

***Since his first self-released record at the tender age of sixteen, twenty-year-old college dropout and spastic wunderkind from Baltimore Cex has been breaking molds left and right, burning a path with his fiery combination of ambition, humor, and brutal honesty. After a year of almost non-stop touring, during which he perfected his uncanny synthesis of showmanship and intimacy, Cex (born Rjyan Kidwell) finally recorded his third full-length album. Cex's first two albums, Role Model and Oops, I Did It Again! are regarded as unprecedented classics among followers of ambitious left-field electronic music. Because of his penchant for complex beats and catchy melodies, Kidwell has garnered critical acclaim from mainstream and underground press alike for bringing daring pop sensibilities and sensitivity to a genre mostly frequently strapped for personality or accessibility.

His quick wit and bona-fide mic skills have delighted music fans of many persuasions: hip-hop heads, indie rockers, electronic music geeks, and even the occasional frat boy. After refining everything about his sound in the forge of the ultimate live show, the much-anticipated album version of Cex's unique blend of hip-hop, experimental electronic music, and pure pop is finally ready for the world to absorb and admire. ***Clipd Beaks is the P.M. Dawn of noise-rock. So concludes singer Nic Barbelin, who adds, "We'll never really fit in... we've always done our own thing." The band brings innate pop sensibilities and intense personal charisma to a genre typically known for alienating listeners. Where others abuse, Clipd Beaks soothe. Their static is far from monochromatic.

The band began in 2003 in Minneapolis, Minnesota when five friends playing in two bands dropped their guitars and joined forces. They established a thick sound defined by analog synth drones, propulsive beats, and layered vocals delivered in the ecstatic tones of street preachers. The addition of ambient and orchestral loops and experiments with lo-fi sampling carried their creations to even higher transcendent planes. Times were good. They moved into a Victorian mansion, recorded their first record, Gang Caves, and partied with the cream of the indie-noise scene. Before long, local pressures brought the party to an end. Vilified by their snooty neighbors as "low-born jagoffs" and derided by the Minnesota rock mainstream, the band upped and migrated to Oakland, California.

Recorded in late 2004, Preyers documents the anxiety of five boys growing into men in the last strange days of the American Empire. Each of the six songs offers a kaleidoscopic view into their collective mind, a sonic galaxy of claustrophobic psychedelia encompassing krautrock, Factory Records, This Heat, and acid-damaged raps about Abu Ghraib.

Letting go of their fear, with eyes open wide, Clipd Beaks embrace the true freedom found in creative expression and community. Preyers is a split release between Tigerbeat6 and Deleted Art Records and is the band's first for both labels.

All Com.a tracks are a compelling mixture of tightly written and filtered melodies alongside intricate sampling and MAX/MSP programming, but these are the tracks that just had to be put out on wax, along with two new exclusive remixes-- a smoking DSP electro hip-hop meltdown from Tigerbeat6 founder Kid606 titled "Ass Scratch Fever," and a virulent, rhythmic IDM glitchhop remix of "Hug Luv Suck" by Tigerbeat6 newcomer Uprock.

***Along with his brother Joseph Nothing and artists like Bisk and Nobekuza Takemura, Com.a (aka Age Yoshida (pronounced "ah-geh")), is one of the first and most inventive Japanese electronica / IDM musicians. Hailed by many as the Japanese equivalent to groundbreaking UK artists like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, Com.a is sounding the war-cry as the leader of a laptop gang all over Japan. Born in England but raised in Hong Kong and New Jersey and now residing in Tokyo, Japan, Age started ROM=PARI when he was only 18 with Joseph Nothing (Planet-Mu); the duo released two critically acclaimed records of highly inventive and abstract drill and bass on the Belgium label SubRosa. After two full tours with AsianDubFoundation and AudioActive, ROM=PARI broke up and Age gave birth to his solo project under the alias Com.a (pronounced "coma," named after a much-loved Japanese candy). After many compilation appearances and foundation-building releases (such as a split 12-inch on Fat Cat's classic split series), endless internet trading of his tracks (which were also popping up on DJ mixes and playlists worldwide), and featured slots on Skam's mysterious and seminal "Disengage" radio shows, Age founded the Notek Rec label and in January 2001, released Com.a's debut album DreamAndHope and the follow up remix album We Are The Pervert.

***From the murky border between the urban jungle and the smoldering forests of Hades comes Crack: We Are Rock. Spawned as a cough syrup-fueled dream somewhere in the Midwest ca. 1995, founder King Riff brought his vision to San Francisco and performed under the Crack:WAR banner with a revolving cast of savants and sociopaths. Eventually teaming up with black metal poseur Obscuratron, the line-up solidified with the addition of L'Erin and Le Kim, sirens with a poetic vision who had fallen off the back of a caravan in a Satanic children's circus.

After touring the US and Japan, Crack:WAR dropped Silent Fantasy on an unsuspecting public. Combining electronics gone wrong with glue-sniffer schoolyard taunts and festering disco rhythms, Crack:WAR gave robo-chic the surrealist bathroom beatdown it savagely deserved.

Crack:WAR immersed themselves in their collective obsessions (specter-infested woods, fiendish horsemen, and New Age warfare) and now unleash a full-length fever dream-journey into a psychedelic future where rainbow-coated simians control the machines and bloodied unicorns sip wine with shrouded reptiles.

***Morbid dance music. Inspired as much by Titicut Follies as Black Sabbath, this is the death of disco (or metal - same thing, anyway). Crack: W.A.R. presents six tracks of haunted carnivals, socially retarded cabaret and the loneliness of being lost at sea. Drum machines and synths, sure, but Crack: W.A.R. is a band; innocence up front and something a little more impish in the back. King Riff, Obscuratron, Le Kim and L'Erin all create a cacophonous din of electro-smash complemented by L'Erin and Le Kim's schoolyard taunt vocals. Their sold-out self-released debut 12-inch split with Ann Arbor's Wolf Eyes gave only a slight indication of the misery to come. Silent Fantasy is their first release for Tigerbeat6 and fits in well with the work of the other inmates. Next time someone decides to take over the teen center or burn down the local theater, Crack:W.A.R. will be off to the side taking notes. Death Disco? Electro-chaos? Punktronica? Sure, call it whatever you want. Nobody is listening to you anyway.

***A very, very long time ago, there was an emerging form of youth music that energized a generation. Crunc Tesla's What's Really Rad? EP revisits that era without drowning in nostalgia. The music, produced by Atlanta-bred, Brooklyn transplant DJ Raedawn, reunifies today's fractured rap and techno scenes. Simply put, it's a 23-minute kinetic energy burst along the lines of Outkast, The Pharcyde, Squarepusher, and even Harry Bellafonte. Acid basslines, Gypsy organs and tweaked synths melt into grimy beats while creamy, rapid-fire lyrics flicker from dark to brilliant. The bipolar fusion of tones melds Middle Eastern melodies with dirty south drum kits, dancehall riddims and broke-beat glitchology. The vocalists bombard from all angles, with MCs hailing from Jamaica, Baltimore, D.C., Atlanta and New York. You might call this American grime or crunktech.

Grandson of a Baptist preacher in Mississippi, Raedawn has been in the game since the age of four. Besides being a seasoned DMC vet and mixtape maestro, he developed the Turntablist Transcription Methodology with chums Ethan Imboden and Battlesounds creator John Carluccio. This unique notation system for scratch DJs has been developed into computer software, taught in music courses around the world, and covered by Time, CNN, Blackbook, and XLR8R. At Skratchcon 2000, Q-bert knighted him with the DJ Q-bert SkratchMaster Award from the Global Skratch Foundation. Far from a scratch nerd, Raedawn has ripped stages everywhere from the Apollo Theatre to the dankest all-night techno dives in Berlin performing alongside artists like Stereolab, Dizzee Rascal and the mythical Red Alert.

  • Warm-up EP for the forthcoming What's Really Rad? full-length due later this year
  • Winner of the Global Scratch Foundation's DJ Q-Bert Skratch Master Award
  • Co-creator of the Turntable Transcription Methodology

Artist: DAT POLITICS Title: Are Oui Phony??
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
MEOW136
Price: $6.75 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
11/6/06
***Faster than any mutant superheros, French electronic musical mavericks DAT Politics return with a new mini-album full of electronic collage and noisy pop songs. These seven new tracks could be considered the perfect winter complement to Wow Twist, their Spring 2006 album for Chicks on Speed Records.

Are Oui Phony?? keeps the speed level at the maximum, for the most part setting aside songwriters Gaetan and Claude's pop indulgence in favor of utter breakbeats madness. The album also features a special guest appearance from Tigerbeat6 recording artist Kevin Blechdom. The band heads East for an extended North American tour to celebrate the album's release.

Release
Date:

***Taking the reins of the French pop underground firmly in hand, electronic sound splinterers DAT POLITICS steer the genre down a new path of pleasure and harmony. A sweet and sophisticated blend of sounds and ideas that falls somewhere between the off-center textures of Oval and Pita, and the computer funk mess-up of Kid 606, Team Doyobi, and Mouse On Mars.

Artist: DAT POLITICS Title: Tracto Flirt
Format: CD Catalog

Price: $6.75 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:

***Originally released as a vinyl-only LP on DAT Politics' Skipp label in 1998, subsequently reissued by Tigerbeat6 on CD with new art and two bonus tracks-- both versions have been out of print for quite a while-- this specially priced jewelbox reissues the second album made by the Lille, France, electronics / computer quartet who create charmingly fucked-up, glitchy electronic beats, tones and melodies.

After many releases and collaborative work with innovative and respectable labels such as A-Musik, Mille Plateaux, Skipp, Boytropp Boy and Berlin-based electro-trash label Chicks on Speed Records, DAT Politics have established themselves as an ever evolving and always enjoyable staple of the electronic music community. They've been hailed by many as "the future electronic pop" and by The Wire as "a total revelation ... bristling with possibilities.... Structures are pushed and pulled, and explode excitedly, as thought and play become audible and contagious. Their music falls somewhere between the off-center textures of Oval or Pita, and the splintered computer funk of Team Doyobi, Kid606, or even Mouse On Mars."

Artist: DDAMAGE Title: Ink 808
Format: 12" Catalog
Number:

Price: $4.00 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
11/6/06
***Ink 808 expresses dDamage's love of electro-punk, noisy acid-trash cut-ups and broken breakbeats. The two brothers brand of melting-pot techno has been blowing minds since the turn of the century, most recently on the Planet Mu releases Radio Ape and Pressure. On Ink 808 they're backed by a remix team featuring fellow French producers Krazybaldhead, Krikor, and Jean Nipon vs. a*.

Krazybaldhead has recorded for the Daft Punk-affiliated Ed-Banger Records and has worked with top talents on the French scene like Feadz (B-Pitch Control) and Paraone (TTC). He's currently working on another Ed-Banger project with American MC Tes (lex).

Krikor is one of the most exciting producers of the French "minimal techno" movement. In the past few years he's been responsible for over thirty releases and is now one of the main artists on the Karat Records roster alongside Chlo/ and Ark.

Jean Nipon vs a* on the other hand is just a sad, old wanker -- a talentless git, according to the band, who just happens to know the right people.

dDamage have also just completed work on a companion video featuring Doctor Agueev, Ape Robot, RA, and -- reportedly -- director David Lynch. More news on that soon.

Artist: DJ RUPTURE Title: Minesweeper Suite
Format: CD Catalog

Price: $9.25 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
8/26/02
***Born near Boston, based in Madrid, DJ /Rupture captured the world's imagination with Gold Teeth Thief, a "stunning, globe-trotting, three-turntable mix" that embodies "the spirit of the best bootleg mixes - bumping, brash, and without borders," according to Vibe's four-star review in their April 2002 issue. With similar hyperbolic raves in The Wire, Urb, and German magazine De:Bug (which named /Rupture "best DJ in the world"), it is close to impossible to ignore the powerfully syncretic musical imagination at work here, nurtured on the one hand by New York's legendary illbient scene and by notions of the African diaspora on the other. Minesweeper Suite is DJ /Rupture's first full-length statement and response to the world since it swallowed the delicious Gold Teeth Thief mix with a thump and a booty-shake, and uses the forum to tear some of hip hop's most familiar battle breaks into arguments that reconstruct "the missing links between Dead Prez and Middle Eastern dub selector Muslimgauze," to quote Vibe again. Mahmoud Fadi, Aphasic, Disc, Cul De Sac, Rotator, Cex, Gregory Whitehead, Bubba Sparxxx, Kid6ye6, J-Boogie, DAT Politics, Borbetomagus, Alliyah, DJ Scud, So Takahashi and Donna Summer all find a home in DJ /Rupture's realm, where squalls of noise and dub concrEete are the sand in his mixer, scouring away the listener's previous associations with music they thought they knew, forcing them to confront cultural differences in a manner that neither essentializes nor orientalizes, but honors them within a deeply rooted, humanistic vision. Minesweeper Suite extends DJ /Rupture's mission of dissolving the boundaries between artistic genres and scenes; the result is a post-colonial, post-apocalyptic work that the world needs now more than ever.
  • The follow-up to one of 2001's most acclaimed releases by an artist with consistent support from labels like Tigerbeat6, Kool-Pop, Peaceoff, Brooklyn Beats, BSI Recordings, and Toneburst Collective
  • Summer and fall tour dates in the USA and Europe, including an appearance at 2002 SONAR Festival

Price: $4.00 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
11/1/04
***Taken in by raggamuffins, punk technoids, indy hipsters, junglists, peers, and austere critics alike, DJ Rupture is the new face of urban music -- the potent sound of genrebending and overcrowded city life, a post-cultural broken mirror that mashes hiphop, techno, reggae, Afro-Cuban, spoken word, bohemian rhapsodies, folk music, chansons, breakbeats, avant-garde noise, and jazz through the strainer of a DJ's mentality. Concentrated and exhilarating, Special Gunpowder is a declaration of musical independence, an intimate and complex work where pop sensibility leaves the comfort zone to explore new directions. In short, Rupture has traveled a world of sound to create one of the most soulful albums by an electronic producer in years. With guest appearances by Ghislain Poirier and Kit Clayton, vocals by Sister Nancy (the cut "Little More Oil" has been licensed to SoulJazz for a 12-inch), Max Turner (Puppetmastaz), Arnaud Michniak (of French cult experimental rock band Programme), ragga heavyweights Junior Cat, Wayne Lonesome, and Wicked Act, Eugene Robinson (of Bay Area avant-metal group Oxbow), and poet Elizabeth Alexander, Rupture brings together connections only he could have foreseen. Special Gunpowder is a major statement from one of the most forwardlooking producers and DJs around.

Track listing:

1. Little More Oil (feat. Sister Nancy)
2. Leech Wisdom
3. Overture: Watermelon City (feat. Elizabeth Alexander)
4. Leaves
5. Musquito (Club Foot Remix)
6. Bonechip
7. Flop We (feat. Junior Cat)

*** After countless compilation appearances, remixes, and DJ mix CDs, it's startling that DJ /Rupture has arrived at his debut album only now. Taken in by raggamuffins, punk technoids, indy hipsters, junglists, peers, and austere critics alike, he is the new face of urban music-- the potent sound of genre-bending and overcrowded city life, a post-cultural broken mirror that mashes hiphop, techno, reggae, Afro-Cuban, spoken word, bohemian rhapsodies, folk music, chansons, breakbeats, avantgarde noise, and jazz through the strainer of a DJ's mentality.

In short, Rupture has traveled a world of sound to create one of the most soulful albums by an electronic producer in years. Rupture is as confident with studio gear as he is behind the turntables, and not one to shy away from multi-culturalism; the album contains lyrics in three languages (English, Spanish, and French). He sessioned with Western and Arabic musicians in his Barcelona studio. There isn't a turntable in sight. (A little known fact: before he left NYC for Spain, Rupture played in a band with eight-time Grammy winner Norah Jones.) ***Welcome Drop The Lime into your home, but expect neither flowers nor bottles of wine. Instead, you will be gifted with a premeditated attack on your entire record collection. Forgive Drop The Lime (a.k.a. L. Venezia), for it's simply his nature. He started programming and composing at a very young age. Teenage rave scene influences (jungle, drum'n'bass, U.K. garage) soon festered into a fascination with drum sounds and fills, which led to a string of break-core drill'n'bass 12-inch releases and compilation appearances on trendsetter labels like Ambush and Peace Off. Killy 123 promises to push Drop The Lime into "serious contender" status among twisted, hardbeat miscreants like AFX, Squarepusher, Kid606, and Venetian Snares.

As its playful title suggests, Killy 123 is a move away from the morbid and dark releases proliferating in today's IDM scene. Taking a goofier approach to melody, these upbeat tracks are mixed clean and loud for maximum dance-floor appeal. In "The Days" and "Amarcord Gold," big band remixes and squirty sound riffs tangle within the context of floor-thumping anthems, inviting consideration of the relationship between old and new forms of dance music. "Rad Girl Killy" and "Cutty Throats" revolve around the empty spaces in sound, allowing the main rhythms to unravel over time, balanced by tickly, eerie melodies. Each side ends with melancholic, beatless tracks that express the energy and emotion put into the creation of the harder, dancier tracks on the EP. These songs, "10.28.00" and "Just Don't Make them Cry," are epic ambient pieces that climb towards a digital heaven.

  • Upbeat tracks in a Venetian Snares / Squarepusher style
  • Sure to be heard on dancefloors worldwide
  • Previous releases on trendsetter labels Ambush and Peace Off

***The best tracks from Luca Venezio's (aka Drop the Lime) debut album given the proper dance or die funky techno treatment by today's most interesting techno, acid and house producers.

Kid606 turns "Shaken" into a writhing dual 303 acid track; Eats Tapes pitch down the vocals and make a serious bootybass bouncer; Soft Pink Truth replaces all the vocals but keeps the same lyrics on the most disco-friendly remix; while Gold Chains and Original Hamster mainpulate the originals into their own unique styles.

***Shot Shot Hearts is Grime / Dubstep-influenced Breakcore and Punk at its most anthemic and passionate level; a circus of colliding underground scenes run by the ringleader himself, Drop the Lime. Your city is haunted, and you want to go out and play with the ghosts, wrestle with the sounds of the dark night. Drop the Lime is here to lead you and keep you safe. Shot Shot Hearts captures the feeling of the blistering cold of torrential downpours and the spooky fog that soothes when the storm is done.

This dangerously energetic EP sounds like pop songs after a machete attack: distorted shuffle kicks, pyschobilly slap back delayed vocals, spooky harmonies and ghostly guitars.

  • The latest and greatest in Drop the Lime's must-have catalogue of acclaimed EPs on Ambush, Peace Off, Broklyn Beats, Mirex, Shockout and now Tigerbeat6

  • The perfect stopgap release for hungry fans 'til a full-length album in spring 2006

  • Drop the Lime has toured across the world playing dozens of high-profile shows with artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Plaid, Kid606, Vex'd, DJ Rupture, Plasticman, Sickboy, Maximo Park, Cylob, Shut Up and Dance, and Shadetek

Artist: DROP THE LIME Title: This Means Forever
Format: CD Catalog
Number:
MEOW111
Price: $6.75 Label: Tigerbeat 6
Release
Date:
2/28/05
***This Means Forever, Drop the Lime's debut album, invites all the pop stars of the world to this apocalyptic dance-off. Please step up Mr. Timberlake, Mrs. Spears, Madonna, Usher, even that guy Wade Robson, to "dance or die."

This Means Forever is as playful as it is serious. DTL's hardcore Italo-killy sound nods to breaks from the days of rave, with timeless time stretches, freestyle squirts, and vocal sweeps sung by himself and guest ghetto-tech MC, Minty. Spending the majority of his childhood spinning classic jungle artists like The House Crew, Congo, and DJ Hype, and singing in punk bands, DTL today combines the two hyper styles of music. Snares freeze in empty spaces while growling basslines, trumpets, cellos and guitars swoon through epic cut and paste archives of sound. With elements of hardcore punk, vocals shout like Fugazi and flirt like Frank Sinatra.

DTL continues to rise in the underground electronic music scene. With a slew of EPs and tracks already released on labels like TB6, Ambush, Peace Off, Broklyn Beats, he has already blown the minds of crowds worldwide alongside pioneer artists like DJ Scud, Aphasic, Doormouse, Kid606, and even Dizzee Rascal's US Debut performance in NYC. This Means Forever is only the beginning for this young talent, but it will definitely set a path forever.

***Rowdy nights in hyper New York City consist of sub-heavy dive bars, sticky dancefloors, backflips off the bar, and smoke-filled limousines. Drop the Lime's We Never Sleep is a headfirst dive into this after-hours world and its creatures of the night. The album, packed with four-to-the-floor funk spiked with grime and growling techno-bass, features eleven gritty club bangers dripping with romance and Italo-punk attitude.

"Wake Up Call" opens the album with a bomb of intoxicating dubstep. Over militant beats and bass, Luca Venezia (aka Drop The Lime) seduces listeners with a vocal intro, then snaps the track into a shake-and-break booty frenzy with guest-vocalist, Minty (Glassy Eyes, This Means Forever). Tracks like "Triceratops," "E-Lock," and "Hotsauce Grillz" are heavily influenced by recent stays in Berlin and the UK where Venezia performed at parties like Bristol's Toxic Dancehall and London's Bang Face. "Full Moon Rising," "ButterScotch," and "Coal Oven Fevers," are Venezia's first true verse-chorus-verse pop songs, and while still heavy on the dancefloor, these tracks make We Never Sleep more than just an album for DJs and club heads.

Venezia helped introduce UK grime and dubstep to US audiences with his Bangers & Mash parties and his live sets at Cut Crew's Dirty Down, Dave Q's Dub War, Konkrete Jungle, and a few epic Rothko events. With underground bass music taking off in 2006, Venezia's dark grime, dangerous techno, and romantic vocals make him NYC's obvious new bad boy Sinatra.
