DEAD C. Harsh 70s Reality (SILTBREEZE SB1112) CD (reissue)
A track-by-track deconstruction of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by any other name would smell just as harsh. Mr. Morley, Bruce Russell and Robert Yeats Xpress themselves circa 1992. Grainy. First time on CD. Released April 27th, 1998.

GRIEF Torso (PESSIMISER PESS23) CD/2LP
One of the most respected and hardest working bands in doom business. None so grim, none so copied; Grief deploy dismally ominous Sabbathian riffs and sawed-off harmonies and wallow in their own very special brand of apocalyptic hellishness. Whee! Released April 27th, 1998.

SONIC YOUTH A Thousand Leaves (MY SO-CALLED
RECORDS MSCR03) 2LP
SY's new DGC album-- on independently-released double vinyl! "A Thousand Leaves" is a return to form, formlessness and the noisesome art-drift adventures we've come to know and love. Released April 27th, 1998.

ANDRE WILLIAMS Silky (IN THE RED ITR57)
LP/CD
Andre's trail of breadcrumbs leads back to the classic "Shake A Tailfeather" as well as the cult hits "Bacon Fat" and "Jailbait." Andre cut a multitude of crazed singles well into the 70s that ranged from doo-wop to sleazy blues to rock-hard R&B. He's recorded for Fortune, Norton and Chess, scouted talent for Barry Gordy, and produced Bobby "Blue" Bland and Ike and Tina Turner. He's joined on "Silky" by Danny (Demolition Doll Rods) and Mick Collins (Gories, Blacktop). This is a delightfully profane record. It has a sexy cover. You'll smile, you'll stomp your feet, you'll cross your legs. It will be cool. Released April 27th, 1998.

GRIEF/16 Split (PESSIMISER PESS24)
10"
Doctor Depression and Professor Pessimism give a command performance in the court of Sludgecore Royalty. 16 performs the ageless Slayer classic "At Dawn They Sleep" while Grief churn out one of their own, a little monster entitled "Bored." Originally planned as a tour-only release, this 18-minute chunk of masochist-candy shall be available to one and all now that the tour has been formally aborted-- the very same week that we released Grief's "Torso," April 27th, 1998.

DOLDRUMS Feng Shui (VHF VHF32) CD
Recorded at the same time as the band's 1997 Kranky release, "Acupuncture," "Feng Shui" represents the more ambient and contemplative side of the duo. Raga, solo percussion, post-astral jamming, mutilated beats and karmically correct mic placement all join forces to take you to neo-Jungian space-o-licious places heretofore unregressed to. Complex, deeply layered, provocative. Released April 13th, 1998.

ROY MONTGOMERY And Now The Rain Sounds Like Life Is Falling Down Through It (DRUNKEN FISH DF41) CD
Flying Saucer Attack, Bardo Pond and Hash Jar Tempo carry loaded significance, sure. Remember a particularly fine one-sixths of Harmony Of the Spheres? New Zealander Montgomery's past includes such extended moments, as well as work with Pin Group, Dadamah and Dissolve. The present: nobody else can do things like this with "only" voice, guitar, piano, four-track, and an armful of effects boxes. Released April 13th, 1998.

SIMON WICKHAM-SMITH/RICHARD YOUNGS Pulse (VHF
VHF35) CD
Third VHF release finds R!!!&S!!! moving towards psychedelic rock/folk. Plaintive and playful, dignified and rarefied, in the tradition of Robert Wyatt and Pentangle. Their most song-oriented record since the influential debut "Lake." Destined to this spring's pet artrock hothouse flower (*swoon*). Where has this album been all our life? Released April 13th, 1998.

SHR107) CD/LP

SOUTHERNING Templates Made Or Found (DRUNKEN
FISH DF38) CD

STARFUCKERS Infrantumi (DRUNKEN FISH DF42)

PUSSY GALORE Live In The Red (IN THE RED
ITR50) CD/LP
Jon Spencer. Neil Haggerty. Bob Bert. Kurt Wolf. August 8th, 1989. CBGB's. Their last tour, their last show. A most valuable party document for appreciators of the originators of the Blues Explosion, Royal Trux and the Chrome Cranks. Eye-popping sleeve and lettering by Nate Kato only hint at the mindblowing rock action within-- this one will have them frugging on the tables at your next late-eighties theme soiree. But kill retro; this is timeless. Released February 16th, 1998.
