Eternal Elysium started out in 1991 styled after New Wave of British Heavy Metal, a genre held in infinite esteem in Japan even 20 years after its genesis. Following several personnel changes and multiple mini-tours, the band's lineup and sound solidified in 1997 into a heavy mix of classic rock jams, early Sabbath tempos and mood, and NWOBHM power. Spiritualized D encompasses several years' worth of creative energy, collecting rare and unreleased tracks, brand new songs, and new recordings of some of their longtime favorites. Eternal Elysium's members cite influences across the metal spectrum: Black Sabbath, Flower Travellin' Band, Tommy Bolin, Atomic Rooster, Saint Vitus, Paul Chain, King Crimson, Grand Funk Railroad, Kyuss, Uriah Heep, Santana, etc. So much heavy.

They've contributed to multiple compilation albums, including: a tribute to '70s doomsters Black Widow; Miskatonic Foundation's At The Mountains of Madness; the self-released Doomsday Recitation; the forthcoming Japanese-only Survivalist 2; MeteorCity's Slave To The Power: The Iron Maiden Tribute; and the soundtrack to indie horror film I Am Vengeance. Their second full-length album is expected by year's end on Texas-based doom/metal label Brainticket Records.

Revered as two of the most prolific and intriguing MCs in Los Angeles, Aceyalone (of Freestyle Fellowship) and Abstract Rude (of Abstract Tribe Unique) have been collaborating for the past eight years and created several classics in the process (notably "Deep and Wide" and "B Boy Kingdom" on Aceylone's All Balls Don't Bounce and "Me and My Main" on the Beats and Lyrics 2 compilation). Ever wonder how they do rock'n'roll in Cedar Rapids, Iowa? Puh, like we gotta ask! The first record from the Horrors is the real article from middle America. They're young (average age: 21); they're abrasive (extremely); they're angry (in a cow-tipping, trenchcoat mafia kinda way); they're nasty, raw and hate-driven as it gets (every coupla months at In The Red); they approximate Pussy Galore, Empress Carolyn's favorite band of all-time the Oblivians, and Doo Rag (having a battle royale inside a cement mixer - one of them big ones, you know the kind that take up the whole damn street?).

Recorded and slowly tweaked in late 1999, these melodic compositions for acoustic guitar and ring modulator are the first true solo recordings by Steve Lobdell (Baseball Astrologer collaborator, leader of both Davis Redford Triad and Sufi Mind Game, not to mention sometime-guitar wrangler with Faust). Their whispery, fluffy-cloud dynamism will appeal to the desire for a little subtlety.

Automatic Writing by the Moon's 13 tracks are a mixture of massive overdubbing, wondrous cinematic composition, folksy improvisation and studio experimentation. The backwards feedback of "Astral Projection" is vibrantly illuminating, while the instrumental arrangement of Chilean folksinger Victor Jara's "The Departure" evokes a cosmic western scene. So, yes, this record is psychedelic - if it really must be dumbed down - but not in the burnt-tar hooliganism sense; despite healthy studio trickery, Mr. Lobdell still insists on playing the guitar with his fingers.
