Midheaven Mailorder/Revolver USA's Secure Server and YOU
*What's up with those "certificate" messages I keep getting?
Some users visiting midheaven.com may see dialog boxes saying "Netscape does not recognize the authority that signed [this site's] certificate" or "unable to establish secure connection to [this site]" on Internet Explorer. There is a technicality regarding the difference between our domain name: www.midheaven.com-- and our registered business name-- Revolver USA. Midheaven is a wholly-owned division of Revolver USA, but that doesn't matter to the company that issues website security certificates, Verisign. If our domain name was www.revolverusa.com, everything would appear cool, but since our domain name and business name differ, the dialog boxes have begun to pop up. These messages are inaccurate and misleading. Our site is secure. Some might say the warnings amount to a scam for Network Solutions and Verisign (essentially the same company)-- an attempt to get websites to buy multiple domain names and security certificates. NetSol/Verisign has far too much consolidated power in the internet marketplace and we'd prefer not to give them any more money than absolutely necessary. Yeah, that, and the line at the San Francisco Business License clerk's office is, like, insane. But enough whining. While we're on the subject, Midheaven's customer database is kept in a separate computer from that which houses our online operations. Our online server houses only our merchandise catalog-- no credit card info exists on the website's host server. Even if someone tried to pry their way into the back of our site, there would be no access to your account information, and we like it that way. We like to think you do, too. To be honest, the furor over internet credit card fraud is blown way, way out of proportion. When you give your credit card to a stranger waiting on you in a restaurant and they disappear somewhere with it, is your information secure? Think about it. You are far more likely to have credit card carbons purloined from a dumpster than have your account number and expiration date hacked over an insecure internet connection. Yes, the internet is a big, scary place. But the degree of risk is acceptable, as far as we're concerned. Midheaven has logged many tens of thousands of transactions without anyone coming to us with confirmed claims of credit card fraud. Regardless, we've installed software and hardware firewalls on our server that block and track suspicious activity. There are alternate methods of ordering via Midheaven that will allow you to get us your credit card information without submitting it over the web. You can choose one of the following alternatives:
