***Australia’s premiere punk band, FRENZAL RHOMB, have reunited with Fat Wreck Chords for the release their 8th full-length album, Smoko at the Pet Food Factory. Now, we non-Australians may be a little confused about what the album title means, but we definitely understand the fact that the music is the same balls-to-the-wall, clever, catchy punk rock that Frenzal Rhomb is famous for (think NOFX sung by Crocodile Dundee). The band has firmly established a controversial reputation over the years (ranging from cover art, song titles and content, behavior on-and off-stage, and their association with radical politics) and the content on Smoko at the Pet Food Factory is yet another rung on Frenzal’s illustrious ladder. Sonically speaking, the 16 tracks on Smoko are absolutely incredible. This is due in no small part to the fact that famed Descendents drummer BILL STEVENSON both produced and recorded the album at the Blasting Room (Rise Against, NOFX, Flogging Molly, Train). With songs topics covering cockroaches, goths, racists, rapists, and Karl Alvarez , it’s clear that the band has not lost its knack for twisting even the most obscure subject matter into loud, addictively melodic punk rock.
