***Mayor Daley (the Mayor) is out, but thankfully MAYOR DALEY is still here with us. After a brief hiatus and a bassist change, the trio has returned to Rotted Tooth with an LP of epic proportions. Mayor Daley have their roots firmly planted in the Chicago art rock underground, but these players ain't playin'. They've become a forced to be reckoned with over the course of the last few years. Gonzo Chicago agrees: ‘Something happened when EMILY ELHAJ joined Mayor Daley over a year ago, alongside KELLY MARIE CARR and PAUL ERSCHEN. They seem more focused and a little more mellow, but in a way that forces your attention and breathes its own air in the room. They let the fuzz and rhythm ooze out slowly, but eventually, undeniably, you're encompassed. These are slow, building, sonic war-cries. I've heard the term ‘best band in Chicago’ multiple times over the last year.’ Chicago City and Press accurately ascertained that Sand Bath is ‘drudgy noise punk that could serve as a post-apocalyptic soundtrack.’ If you’re the type who can get stoked on the idea of a simpler Magma or a more jazzy or occult-driven Unwound, just wait 'til you drop the needle on Sand Bath. These are four intense (and somehow oddly comforting) battle hymns. Guitarist Kelly Carr is still singing in her idiosyncratic way, as Chicago Reader described it, ‘firmly in the haunted-woman tradition of Siouxsie Sioux and Lydia Lunch,’ except sans lyrics. Fans of Ga'an and previous Rotted Tooth releases by Rind and Dreebs need this. Rotted Tooth pressed 300 copies. Oh yeah, and Mayor Daley is STILL one of the sexiest bands in Chicago.”—Lance of Permanent Records. Limited to 300 copies with silkscreened jackets.
